What happens after my sleep study is completed?
All of the information collected during the night will be analyzed and sent to a
physician for interpretation. A formal report with recommendations, which may involve
a second sleep study, will be sent to your physician within 3-5 business days. On
the night of the study, the sleep technologist will not be able to give you the
results of your study.
When will I learn the results of my study?
Final results are sent to your physician within 3-5 business days. If further testing
is required, your physician may want to wait until all of the testing is complete
before reviewing the results with you. After your initial sleep test, please call
the physician's office to inquire about a follow-up visit.
What if additional testing
is recommended?
Some patients with evidence of OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) will try CPAP (Continuous
Positive Airway Pressure) during the night of their first study. Some patients with
limited sleep hours or mild symptoms will not meet criteria to try CPAP the same
night. For these patients, a second study is recommended. Second studies may also
be recommended if the optimal pressure setting cannot be determined during the night.
What if CPAP therapy is recommended?
If CPAP is recommended to treat your OSA, a referral will be made to a Home Medical
Equipment (HME) company. This company will provide the machine and supplies needed.
A HME representative will show you how to use the equipment and how to clean the
mask and filters. The representative will check your insurance benefits ahead of
time.
